Many employer funded health insurance policies have raised the annual deductible to on average over $1000 before the health insurance coverage makes a payment. AARP health insurance policies although not advertised may also have raised the amount of the deductible paid by the AARP members.
Higher deductibles tend to make people less likely to seek treatment. This often leads to even higher medical costs than if the people concerned had sort treatment earlier.
There is evidence that people are not having their annual checkups, tests and other medical care. Hospitals are reporting a drop in patient visits and revenue and a rise in late payments and unpaid bills as are doctors themselves in private practice.
